Yesterday I purchased the shade pink leather garden furniture paint. The woman at customer services has just done everything to get out of their guarantee promise and to get me to contact B&Q yet again instead. They have not stood by their guarantee promise. I will report back tomorrow with news of what happens. To my mind, the claim that their mixing service will achieve 99% - 100% colour match accuracy is simply wrong and it may be arguable that the accuracy claim breaches trading standards or at least the consumer rights act. Foolishly, today I gave it another shot, but again its proven a massive disappointment and inconvenience. I eventually gave up on it and settled on an alternative manufacturer's paint, vowing to never use the Valspar paint mixing service again. The resulting nightmare of incorrect colour mixing had me running back and forth to the store many times over a week or more, to try to achieve the correct colour. The staff member that served me today recalled my previous experience of using the paint mix service from several years ago, when a sampler colour mix that I bought was used to create a large 5 ltr tin of the same colour.

I will update tomorrow once I have discussed it with them.

As yet, I have not returned to the local B&Q store I purchased from, but I'm not hopeful of a positive outcome. Neither are a match for the colour they were scanned from. I bought a 2.5ltr tin of premium Matt, mixed to match farrow and ball "railings". Valspar colour match paint mixing is not what the company promote it as, and is certainly not what the customer will be satisfied with. The colour is also good but the aforementioned main problem is totally inexcusable. The coverage was acceptable although it took three coats to achieve a deep, uniform colour. Personally, I would avoid this paint at all costs. This would also mean when it comes to repainting the wall in future, it would all have to be removed to avoid this happening.

Any use of masking tape will peel away whole swathes of paint - it peels off like the skin on custard.

This means, any attempt to sand of minor imperfections removes the whole layer of paint down to the surface. Unlike other paints, which absorb into the wall and thus makes sanding off minor lumps and masking a doddle, Valspar sits on the wall like a skin.

Valspar has a fault which renders the paint effectively useless. As context, I have used most other brands before and prepared the walls the same way: fully sanded, sugar soaped, primed and painted white, All other brands main faults are coverage and coats required only. Bought the 'premium' version from B and Q.
